Obituary

Mary Jane Davis who was known by all that knew her as “Janie”, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 12th, 2021 at the age of 75. Janie most recently resided at her lake home in Linn Creek Missouri. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Stanley Davis. Janie was born on December 22, 1945 in Jefferson City, MO., to the late Bernard and Marie Redel, and was the youngest of seven siblings. She was married on May 7, 1966 at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle, Missouri to Stanley Davis.

Janie’s passion was her family and being a pillar of support for the many activities in which they were all engaged. Janie worked for the State of Missouri after high school in Jefferson City for a brief period of time prior to the family moving to the St. Louis area where Janie served as a homemaker and family caretaker for the remainder of her life. No matter what hectic demands the family placed on her, she was always prepared, and the home was always ready to host family and friends, at any time. Besides providing for the emotional and physical support of the family, Janie also ensured their spiritual wellbeing by being an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimmswick, Missouri where she volunteered for many activities. Janie was still active in many Catholic charities until her passing.

After the retirement of Stanley and their subsequent relocation to their lake home, she spent many hours fishing, hosting family and generally enjoying what life had to offer. This usually consisted of fish frying and cleaning up whatever messes were made in the wake of the many Stanley Davis projects. She was active in the growth and development of her grandchildren who would spend summer vacations with grandma and grandpa at the lake, and always on call to serve as the emergency nanny when needed at a moment’s notice.

Other survivors include two sons, Bryan Davis and his wife Keri Anne of Joplin, MO., and Neil Davis of Jefferson City, MO.: four grandchildren, Hunter Davis, Wynter Davis, Mikayla Kuehnel and Lucas Kuehnel, along with one sister, Viola Dudenhoeffer of Freeburg, MO. Janie was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Ruckman of St. Louis, MO. and Bernice Lock of Koeltztown, MO., and three brothers, Oscar and Victor Redel of Argyle MO., and Vincent Redel of Bonnet Mills, MO.

A celebration of life for Janie will be private for only immediate family at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Compassus Living Foundation at the following website https://www.compassus.com/about-us/giving-and-donations or to Catholic Charity Ministries at the following website https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/ways-to-give/.
