Freddie Eugene Blount, known as Gene among his relatives and friends, passed away Monday January 23, 2017 at his home. Gene was born on November 27, 1933 in Hockerville, Ok, the son of Opal Blount and Edna Thomas Blount.
He attended schools at May, Mo and Livingston, CA. He was united in marriage to Wanda Smith on April 23, 1955, in Turlock, Ca. Gene was called to serve in the U.S. military from 1956 to 1958, serving abroad in Aschaffenburg, Germany, along with his wife, Wanda. After his discharge from the military, he returned to his employment with Armour Star, and later with Con Agra Foods, serving in various management positions. In 1987, he accepted a transfer offer to Carthage, Mo as a plant manager for Con Agra Foods until his retirement in 1992. During his retirement years, he was a business consultant for many food & poultry operations. Gene was active for many years in the Assembly of God churches in Turlock, Ca, Carthage First Assembly in Carthage, MO Sonora Christian Heights, in Sonora, Ca, and Joplin Faith Assembly, serving in many volunteer positions.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Lloyd, James, Bobby and Mickey Jo; and two sisters: Bernice Silva and Arrahwanna Harris. Survivors include his wife, Wanda, three children: Kirk Blount (Martha) of Carthage, Mo, Kevin Blount (Ronda) of Turlock, Ca, and Karyn Blount of El Dorado Springs, Mo; four grandchildren: Ryan Blount (Shavonne) Rachelle Mendes (Flavio), of Turlock, Ca, Hunter Blount and Hannah Blount of Carthage, Mo; five great grandchildren: Tayton and Brody Blount, Kamryn and Jenna Dean and Victoria Mendes of Turlock, Ca; and two brothers; Ronald Lee, and Stephen; a sister Jackie Matthews, good friend Bob Worthylake and many very close friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday February 4, 2017 at the Faith Assembly of God Church, Joplin, Mo. with Rev. Grant Curtis and Rev. Larry Griffin officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to service time at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Faith Assembly Church in care of the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory.
