Obituary for Kay Welch

Bertha Cathern “Kay” Welch, age 96, of Joplin, Missouri passed away at her home on Saturday April 22, 2023.

She was born September 15, 1926, in Burns, Kansas to John and Lydia (McCormick) Runyan.

Kay worked in communications for Southwestern Bell Telephone and was the former owner of The Big Nickle newspaper. She was involved with The Welcome Club, Women’s Club and various Bridge Clubs. She attended Fellowship Baptist Church.

She married William “Bill” Welch on May 13, 1967, in Reno, Nevada. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2005. Also preceding her in death are her parents, two sisters, Peggy Brouillette, and Irene Brazeal, three brothers, Frank Runyan, John Junior Runyan, and Richard Dick Runyan.

Kay is survived by a sister in-law, Gwen Runyan, and numerous extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday April 28, 2023, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary with Rex Wakefield officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the mortuary.
