Wilma always wanted to be a nurse and after graduating from Joplin high school in 1958 she attended nursing school and became an LPN nurse. She worked first at St. John’s Hospital in Joplin then she took time off to raise her children. She then worked for the Joplin city health department. She retired from the health department in December 2016.
Wilma loved her family, nursing, pets, birds and flowers. It seemed there were always stray dogs and cats in her care and the local birds seemed to be very comfortable in her presence. When it came to her grandchildren however she was always first to arrive and last to leave!
She also had the strongest of work ethics. Always a nurse, helping those in need. Her legacy will include her dedication to family, nursing, hospitality and generosity.
