Obituary for George L Dorsey
George Leeman Dorsey, age 87, of Joplin, Missouri passed away March 08, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born December 29th, 1935, in Pittsburg, Kansas to Leeman and Georgia Dorsey (LaVrar.)
George graduated high school and then later received his bachelor’s degree in business management. While in high school George met and later married the love of his life Phyllis Dorsey (Webb). They were married 69 years.
George retired from Empire District Electric Company after 35 years of service. He was in Human Resources for many of those years and was extremely loyal to the company and his co-workers alike.
George was very work oriented and loved all kinds of outdoor activities. He loved people and telling stories.
George was preceded in death by his parents Leeman and Georgia Dorsey (LaVrar.)
George is survived by his wife Phyllis of Joplin, a son, Richard Dorsey (Vicki) of Willard, and a daughter, Linda Vaughan (Gary) of Joplin. George is also survived by two brothers, Robert Dorsey (Donna) of Sarcoxie, and Steve Dorsey (Mary) of Carthage, and two sisters, Pat Lawhorn (John) of Carterville, and Marilyn Dempsey (Arch) of Prosperity. George also has three surviving grandchildren, Dustin Kyger (Chelsea), Katelyn Gillaspy (Brent), and Brandon Dorsey. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Ian, Abby, Wade, and Wyatt.
There will be a graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery Monday at 10:00 am.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory Joplin, Missouri.
