Obituary for John C Danner

John C. Danner Jr, age 79, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Monday January 30, 2023 with family by his side.

He was born February 10, 1943, in Carthage, Missouri to J.C. Danner and Mildred (Short) Wilson.

John worked for Schreiber Cheese as a truck driver. He then worked many great years as a bus driver and in the maintenance department for Joplin R-8 where he eventually retired. He found retirement to be too quiet and went back to work as a shuttle bus driver for Downstream Casino and Resort. He enjoyed meeting and interacting with the many people. He graduated from Carthage High School and honorably served in the United States Navy 1964-1968

John always taught his family something new, each time they interacted. He was a wealth of knowledge in mechanics. He was a professional at tinkering. John loved to showcase his skills on the bbq grill cooking for his family and friends.

He enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and was an avid fisherman. He loved showing his kids, grandkids, family, and friends the tricks of the trade. Family fishing trips to Canada were enjoyed for many years. John loved traveling every summer with his wife, Peggy, to be campground hosts in Salt Lake City, Utah and many other parks throughout the US.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Danner, his mother Mildred Wilson and husband Robert, his father J.C. Danner and wife Melba, brother, Tom Danner, and wife (Linda), his first wife and lifelong friend Marijane Reed, and best friend David Danner.

He is survived by one son, Eric Danner and wife Tara, one daughter, Kimber Shields and Bill Fecke, two grandsons, Brian and Stephen Shields, two sisters, Alice Mohr, Linda Wilson, one brother, Bob Danner and wife Linda, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Angela, RN with Phoenix (Hospice) Home Health Care and LeeAnn with Independent Living Center. Both played a very significant role in John’s end of life care.

The gentlemen honoring John’s life serving as pallbearers will be, Brian Shields, Stephen Shields, Sam Goade, Cody Danner, Jeff Danner, J.D. Turner, Robert Fecke and Johnny Dieudonne.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday February 3, 2023, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary with pastor Kyle Beverlin officiating. Burial will follow at Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30 – 7:00pm Thursday at the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory Joplin, Missouri.
