Obituary for Dennis Wayne Strait

Dennis Wayne Strait, 59, of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 7th, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Dennis was born on August 10th, 1963, in Joplin, Missouri to Bobby and Laura (Fox) Strait. Dennis was a longtime Joplin resident. He was employed by CFI where he was a driver and a dedicated driver trainer. He has driven a semi-truck totaling over one million miles. Dennis was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard where he served for seven years. Dennis attended Joplin Full Gospel Church. Dennis was a member of the 66 Car Buddies car club and enjoyed taking his restored cars to car shows where he won numerous trophies including “Best Overall In Show” at the Golden Corral car show in 2021. He was a jack of all trades, always first in line to lend a helping hand to anyone in need with a smile on his face. Dennis never knew a stranger. Dennis liked to have a good time including getting into trouble with his daughter while receiving treatments at the hospital. Dennis enjoyed being around his kids and grandkids, at times being ornery and even “tormenting” them.

Dennis was joined in marriage to Cheryl (Whiteley) on June 11, 1983, in Joplin, Missouri.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Zachary Strait (Darryllann); daughter, Amber Millard; grandchildren; Mesa, Brookelynn, Samuel, Noah, Micah and Marshall; mother, Laura Strait; brothers, Daren Strait and Stephen Strait; sisters, Christy Pink (Scott) and Misty Troxel (Darin); along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Strait; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew “Jack” and Jeneda Whiteley; sister-in-law, Freda Whiteley; brother-in-law, Gary Whiteley; and grandparents, Floyd and Lois Fox and William and Thelma Strait.

The family wants to give a special thank you to Mercy Cancer Center, Glenn Garcelon Foundation, Shelly sachs Foundation and Ross Construction.
