Obituary for Robert A. Adams
Robert A. “Bob” Adams, Farmer/Rancher, Soldier, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and dedicated Sutherlands employee, age 93, of Joplin, MO, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at his home, following a long full-filled life.
Bob was born on March 3, 1929, the son of the late Arthur Lovell Adams and Elzada (Stephens) Adams. He graduated from Sumner in Perry, OK. In high school he played basketball. He met and married Wanda Jean Skaggs on July 16, 1951. They were married sixty-eight years before her passing. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Bob worked for Sutherland’s as an assistant manager, manager and later as a district manager. He retired after forty-seven years, only to return working fifteen years as part-time. He completed a sixty-two-year career with Sutherland’s, completely retiring as the age of eighty-five. Bob loved Sutherlands. He always treated it like it was his own and did what he felt was best for the company. He was a member of Byers Avenue Methodist Church.
Bob’s hobby was his 240 acre farm, The Circle A Ranch, he loved taking care of his cows. He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He was a great dad. He believed in having an excellent work ethic, and a strong feeling of Do The Right Thing. His creed was Be on Time!!!
He is survived by his children, Brad Adams and wife Marian, Neosho, MO, and Donna Calcote and husband Bill, Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Seth Calcote and wife Jasimine, Blake Calcote and wife Loraine, Andrew Adams and wife Annabelle, Leigh Anne O’Neal, and Kristie Vera and husband Joe; and thirteen great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Byers Avenue Methodist Church. Reverend Chuck Kralik will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The visitation will be 2-3:00 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the Byers Avenue United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary.
