Obituary for Albert Porter

Albert E. Porter, 74, passed away on June 7, 2022. He was born in Highland Park, IL. on March 12, 1948 to CWO4 Albert E. Porter Sr. of Crocker, MO and Maxine Betty (Waits) Porter of Joplin, MO. He attended The University of Missouri at Rolla, Georgia Tech, Labette Community College and Missouri Southern State University. His educational diversity supported a 35-year career in a variety of manufacturing support management positions in Distribution Management, Information Technology, Procurement, Regulatory Compliance and Environmental Health and Safety. He retired in 2007.

He served in the U.S. Army and was trained in Satellite Communications Systems, Pershing Missile Communications Systems, and Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Warfare. He was a Sergeant in the US Army and a veteran of the Vietnam War in 1969 and 1970. He earned two Bronze Stars, three Army Commendation Medals, six other citations and Expert Marksman Ratings with several weapons. He was also a member of two units that received Presidential Unit Citations.

On August 4, 1973 he had the great good fortune of joining Karen M. Velten of Pierce City, MO in marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Sandy and her husband Allen Dorsey of Joplin, granddaughter, Samantha Brammell and her husband Brandon of Aurora, MO and grandson Brett Dorsey, stationed on Naval Base Guam. Having Karen, Sandy, Allen, Samantha and Brett in his life have been blessings far beyond any he could have hoped for or deserved. The greatest source of pride in his life has come from the character and accomplishments of his family.

He would also like to express his appreciation to Mr. Tim Counts of Joplin, MO. and his high school buddies for their lifelong friendship. Most of all he wants to express his love and gratitude to his wife, Karen for her love, companionship, support and guidance for all the years he was fortunate to share so many adventures with her.

Private Family memorial services will be held at a later date and internment will be in the Veterans Section of Mt Hope Cemetery in Webb City, MO.
