Obituary for Claudia L. Mitchell
Claudia L. Mitchell (McGaugh), age 72 of Joplin, Missouri passed away peacefully on May 19, 2022.
Claudia was born on April 14, 1950 in Denver, Colorado to the late Joseph and Ruth McGaugh (Kenslow). Claudia was a resident of the Joplin area for over 58 years.
Claudia was married to the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Mitchell on January 27, 1973 in Joplin, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 2016. Together they raised three children and built a wonderful life they loved. Claudia was a dedicated wife and mother—loving Bob more than words could describe.
Claudia was a caring and devout nurse, working at St. John’s Hospital for over 41 years. She loved what she did and continued to volunteer her time at Mercy Hospital after retirement. Claudia truly devoted her life to serving and taking care of others, especially her family and those close to her.
Claudia was preceded in death by both of her parents Joseph and Ruth McGaugh, her loving husband of 43 years Bob Mitchell, and her sister Patricia Casey.
Claudia is survived by her three children; Scott Mitchell and wife Melenie, Tracy Thomas, and Clay Mitchell and wife Laurie, five brothers and sisters; James McGaugh, Rick McGaugh, Ray McGaugh, David McGaugh, and Delma Rogers, six grandchildren; Brandon Thomas, Stephanie Mitchell, Scottie Mitchell, Samantha Thomas, Amanda Schlegel, and Tori Murrell, as well as several great grandchildren. Claudia will be greatly missed by all, including her beloved cat, Inca.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Monday, May 23, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends during the visitation at 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society or Special Olympics Missouri, in care of the mortuary.
