Obituary for Dwayne Good
Dwayne Good, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:45 pm, Sunday, April 10th, 2022.
Dwayne was born June 28th, 1936, in Ludlow, Illinois, to Clarence and Florence (Shinker) Good.
Raised in Pontiac, Illinois, Dwayne and his identical twin brother, Dwight Good, began singing together from a young age in their church where their mother played the piano and organ.
After living most of his youth in Pontiac, he attended Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Illinois, where he played both baseball and basketball on the college team and received a degree in Theology in 1958.
During college, Dwayne and his twin brother were members of a quartet called The Lordsmen. Soon after, the twins became a duet known as The Good Twins gospel singers. In the late 50’s, they traveled throughout the Midwest performing at concerts and revivals. Later, The Good Twins were innovative and were the first to use pre-recorded background music instead of live accompaniment at their performances.
While Dwayne was performing at one of his revivals, he met the love of his life and married Ferol Alene (Myers) Good on June 24, 1961, in Memphis, Missouri.
In the 60’s and 70’s, the performing duo began traveling throughout the entire country and overseas. Eventually, they moved to California where they recorded albums at Capital Records. In 1968, The Good Twins received Gospel Music Association’s NEFF (Dove) Award for Gospel Duet Album of the Year. They also began their association with Cecil Todd and Revival Fires, a nationally syndicated television ministry, as singing cast members of the Sunday morning program and worldwide crusades.
In 1972, Dwayne relocated to Joplin, Missouri, with his growing family and The Good Twins continued singing the gospel throughout the world.
Dwayne has performed in more than 22 countries, recorded over 50 albums, and performed more than 7,500 concerts. He has appeared on Christian television stations and toured with countless celebrities. In 1979, Lincoln Christian University presented Dwayne Good with the Restoration Award recognizing lifetime achievement. He was partners with Bibles for Russia that distributed more than a million translated Bibles to the people of Russia.
Besides Dwayne’s passion for singing, he was an accomplished songwriter, poet and self-proclaimed comedian. Many of his songs have been recorded by other artists and some are used in Broadway musicals still today.
He served on the board for Show-Me Christian Youth Home Ministries, ARM Prison Ministries and Christian Tech College. Dwayne also served as a choir member with the Promise Keepers organization.
Dwayne was all about his family and an avid sports fan, baseball coach and sideline cheerleader for his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his servant’s heart, kindness, generosity, and joyous outlook.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his wife; Ferol Good, both parents; Clarence and Florence Good, and three siblings; Ralph Good, Wendell Good and Leon Pytel.
He is survived by four children; Troy Good and wife, Lisa of Irving Texas, Todd Good of St. Charles, Missouri, Traci Heinrich and husband Bryan of Mount Carmel, Illinois, Terry Good and wife Krista of Joplin, Missouri, and his two siblings; Dwight Good and Thelma Mize. Additional survivors include ten grandchildren; Caitlin Good, Ashley Good, Paige Heinrich, Kyle Good, Lauren Good, Britton Heinrich, Avery Good, Jaden Heinrich, Lana Heinrich and Colbie Henrich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Show-Me Christian Youth Home.
Services will be held at College Heights Christian Church Worship Center at 11:30 am, Friday, April 22nd. The family receive friends for a visitation from 10:30 am to 11:30 am prior to service. Randy Gariss and Jay St. Clair will be officiating the service. A graveside commital will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, MO. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
