Obituary for Henry W. Sohosky
Henry Walter Sohosky, 98, was born July 26, 1923 in Joplin, MO to John J Sohosky Sr, and Eva McDaniel Sohosky. He married the love of his life Donna Marie Foshay of Joplin, MO June 15, 1946. Henry met Donna in 1st grade when she held his hand because he was crying. Donna passed away Feb 5, 2005.
Henry joined the US Army on January 29, 1943. He was inducted at Ft. Leavenworth and attended basic training at Ft. Sill, OK. Henry went to Staten Island with the 695th Field Artillery Battalion and served in Europe as part of the 695th Armored Field Battalion. During his 22 months in Europe (Ardennes in Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland and Normandy) he rose from Private to Master Sergeant.
Henry’s honors include a Purple Heart, 7 Bronze Stars, American, European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatre campaign ribbons and a Good Conduct medal. He also was at Utah Beach attached to General Patton’s 3rd Unit, which received a Presidential Citation.
Henry worked at Louis Motor Supply for 50 years. After retirement he worked at All Seasons Florist under the supervision of Randy & Terri Sohosky. Henry enjoyed playing golf and then took up the hobby of diesel train sets like he had as a child. He had intricate train tracks and enjoyed showing them to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Henry is preceded in death by his wife Donna Sohosky, daughter Vicki Franklin and 4 siblings: Laura Virginia Emrich, Pauline Agnes Lampher, John J Sohosky Jr, and Louis O. Sohosky.
Henry is survived by two children, Sandy and Randy. He has 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-granddaughters. He will be missed by many more family and one great friend – Leon Bormaster. They were good friends since high school, and a great comfort since Donna passed – called every Saturday.
His life has been devoted to his family: 2 daughters, 1 son and all of his grandchildren.
Memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans in care of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the mortuary.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
