Obituary for Evelyn Louise Cook
Evelyn “Louise” Cook died at her home on May 6th, 2021 in Joplin, Missouri after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. Louise was born to Jack and Leona England on February 15th, 1949 in Joplin at Freeman Hospital. She married the love of her life, Jerrel Cook Jr., on January 9th, 1968. Together, they created a home that is always welcoming and full of laughter. She became an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother in her lifetime.
Louise was a homemaker for her three children and later obtained a Nurse Aid Certificate. Louise also spent many years working for the Eastern Shawnee Tribe before her retirement. Louise was known for her kind heart and driving need to help others. She was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church and her faith was strong to the very end. She spent many of her days adoring her children and grandchildren, and never feared to offer advice when the need arose.
Louise spent her early years competing in canoeing and won the Oklahoma State Championship in the late 70’s. She was also skilled in gardening, crocheting, and canning. Her homemade sweet relish and salsa was favored by friends and family. Later in life, she would find a passion in prospecting and camping with her husband in Arizona. Louise was also a worldwide traveler and never let an adventure pass her by.
Louise is survived by her husband, Jerrel Cook Jr. and three children; Shelly Johnson, Jerrel Cook III, and Elizabeth Cook. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Gaylon Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Mary Cook. Louise is survived by 13 grandchildren and great grandchildren; Kandice Stephens, Augusta Johnson, Felicia Vaught, Riley Druley, Isaiah Cook, Elijah Cook, Jacklyn Cook, Ezra Cook, Jerrel Cook, Nicholas Stephens, Alana Shaw, Emma Druley, Kenneth Druley, and Leah Druley. She is proceeded by her parents and five siblings; John Jack England, Kenneth England, Bill England, Shirley Carpenter, and Mary England. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Harvel.
A private ceremony will be held by the family at a later date. The family would also like to thank the Mercy Cancer Center for all their efforts in Louise’s medical treatments. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a donation be made to the Mercy Cancer Center or Souls Harbor.
