Obituary for Scott Mitchell

Richard “Scott” Mitchell, age 56 of Joplin, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on Friday March 26, 2021. Scott was born November 9, 1964 in Milwaukee, WI. He married the love of his life, Kathryn Erskin March 19, 1989 in LaRussell, MO.

He worked alongside his brother through several family-owned businesses including US Flooring Company, OlHickory and 2S Angus Land & Cattle as a Master Fabricator, Equipment Operator, Construction Manager and much more. Evidence of his creativity and talent can be found across the Joplin area from large scale custom fabrication projects to construction projects across the facilities and farms to continue the growth and improvement of operations. Scott was the guy that could simply, do anything. His talent is everywhere we look. Scott had the abilities and talent that most merely wish for. A drawing on a napkin progressed to a completed project in days. Enthusiastically complaining throughout the process but smiling with a chip on his shoulder at the project’s completion, “Next time give me a challenge.” He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and just being outside. He always enjoyed the beauty of this amazing earth and truly loved the great outdoors and all of its glory. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. A typical weekend was spent with his granddaughter preparing for a fishing trip or taking a fishing trip.

He is survived by his parents Richard Mitchell and Nancy (Fellie) Talkowski; one son, Dustin (Angel) of Joplin, MO; one daughter, Misty McReynolds (Randy) of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren (Camryn, Corey, Kyra, Kaeden, Kynzleigh, Kaius & Landon); three brothers, Tim (Paige) of Madison, GA, Preston (Micey) of Joplin, MO, Juston (Adrienne) of Joplin, MO; one sister, Rosie of Milwaukee, WI; and three half-sisters; Susan, Stephany & Robin.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, 3701 E. 7th Street, Joplin, MO.
Graveside service will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Seneca Cemetery with Gary Culp officiating. A celebration of life will follow the graveside service at 2S Venue (4586 Jute Rd., Seneca, MO).
