I became acquainted with Roger in the early 1980’s while he was still at Missouri Southern. I was working at Oreilly Automotive in Joplin and did some business with him as well as served occasionally for him as a judge on Vica contests etc. We became very good friends. Later, before opening Adams Automotive, Roger worked summers with us at Oreilly, was ready to lend a hand about any-time and anywhere we needed him, and was always a joy to be around. Roger knew of my passion for the auto industry and that I taught part time at Crowder for many years and he always was very supportive and helpful. When I decided to return to college for a Masters in Technical Education in the early 90’s Roger was instrumental in helping me get my first full time teaching position at Dodge City Community college. I asked him to be on our advisory committee and as usual he said yes and provided much assistance in guiding our program and in assisting with articulating students to PSU to pursue their 4 year Automotive Degree. Roger and I continued to stay in touch after I went to Indiana to teach at Indiana State University and he continued to be good friend and mentor. When I moved back to Missouri to teach at University of Central Missouri many years later, Roger was again there if and when I needed him. When I left UCMO to pursue a dream of working in the electric vehicle field in Kansas City, I worked with Roger and others at PSU to help put together my team for Smith Electric Vehicles. His directness, humor, intelligence, love of life and God were truly special. Roger continued to be a part of my life even after he retired although from some distance away even though we did not talk too often in his last few years. For instance, he helped me through my Dad’s battle with cancer, I hope he and Dad get to meet each other Heaven. To all of Roger’s family, God Bless you, I know you are hurting, I will pray for you.
