Obituary for S. Wayne Floyd
S. Wayne Floyd, of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Overland Park, Kansas, entered the splendor of heaven on Friday, February 19, 2021.
Wayne was born on February 16, 1942 in Izard County, Arkansas, to the late Lindsey Lee Floyd and Annie Lou (Morgan) Mershon. He graduated Oxford high school in Oxford, Ar. He attended Central Missouri State College. On November 16, 1963, he married Colleen Mason. Two children graced their lives, Jeffrey and Jennifer.
Wayne was a Deacon, Chairman of Finance and Sunday School teacher at Waldo Ave. Baptist Church and was instrumental in founding the Independence Christian School. Most recently, Wayne enjoyed membership with Christ Church of Oronogo, bible preaching, Life Group and fellowshipping with believers. Wayne gave his life to Christ, his family, and his community. Those who knew him were blessed by his gentle, loving, generous spirit.
Wayne was an active supporter of the community; he was a gallon blood donor with the American Red Cross, involved with Habitat for Humanity, and actively participated in church mission projects and renovation of church properties. He loved woodworking, building ramps and furniture for the elderly and handicapped.
Wayne was a Certified Purchasing Manager for Allis Chalmers, Director of Operations for Hydrogen Energy Corp. and finally a certified general residential contractor.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Willa Sharp, Lenora Kratz, Lester Floyd, Ada McCoach, Geneva Wyatt, Reba Staggs, David Floyd, George Floyd, Marie Kemp, Vada Floyd, Cassie Creighton, James Floyd, Benny Floyd, Marge Eaton, and nephews David Wayne Floyd and SOC (SEAL) Matthew David Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Colleen Floyd of the home, son Jeffrey Floyd of Joplin, daughter Jennifer Ogden and husband Wes of Joplin, grandsons Grant Taylor Floyd of Kansas City, Missouri, and Garrett Austin Floyd of Mission, Texas, sisters Anna Floyd, Erma Guiltner, and Sharon Davis, in-laws Roberta Floyd, David and Betty Mason, Hazel Rhoades, and Elizabeth Mason, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
A private family graveside service has been scheduled for March 1.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to City Union Mission, in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory.
