Obituary for Shirley Jean Jones (Goins)

Webb City, Mo. Shirley Jean Jones, age 78, of rural Webb City, Mo. passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at her home. Shirley was born August 28, 1942 in Council Grove, KS. She moved to the Webb City area in 1969. Shirley received her Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Consumer Science from Iowa State University and was a member of the National Honor Society. She and her husband moved to the Webb City area in 1969. She worked as a Dietician at a Fort Worth, Texas, and after moving to this area taught Family and Consumer Science at College Heights Christian School. She also developed her own herb and flower business, including making vinegars, teas, and bath products.

Shirley worked with Koinonia Campus Ministry at Missouri Southern from 1974-1981.She assisted her husband in ministry at Christ’s Church of Oronogo from 1981-1990, leading women’s and children’s ministries and worship. Shirley volunteered with the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Joplin, now Life Choices, and was involved with a neighborhood outreach in Joplin that later became God’s Resort. Shirley served on the Board of Directors for both Asian Christian Mission, and Northwest Haiti Christian Mission and made several mission trips.

Shirley married Ron Jones Sept. 1, 1963 in Diagonal, Ia. and he survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Michael S. Jones (Mary), and Mitchell C. Jones (Rene’), both of Oronogo, Mo. , two daughters, Melissa Brown (Richard), Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Manda McClure, (Fiance’ Dean Shobe), Liberty, Mo., one brother, Jim Goins (Joy) Diagonal, Ia., and one sister, Carolyn Webster, McPherson, Ks., 17 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ruth, Jessica, Andrea, Sarah, Mallory, Ben, Lauren, Mark, Nathan, Luke, Matthew, Jon, Thomas, Samuel, Jacob, and Hayden, and 3 great grandchildren, Mckinley, Penelope, and Isabella. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Fairview Christian Church in Carthage, Mo with John Mouton, Minister, officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Memorial contributions are requested to Life Choices , or God’s Resort in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
