Obituary for Patricia Spencer

Patricia Sue Hornback Spencer, age 84, left this world to be with the Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven, Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at Mercy Hospital.

Patricia was born July 28, 1936 in Carthage, MO. She is the daughter of Loren E. and Josephine “Jo” Hornback. She was born at home on the family farmhouse by Dr. Bird. She grew up with many farm animals, a huge garden and fruit trees. Her father, Loren E. Hornback plowed the fields with his two donkeys, had dairy cows, hogs and chickens. Patricia’s responsibilities were feeding the chickens. She went to Underwood School during her elementary years, and then attended Duenweg High School graduating in 1954.

Patricia, “Pat” or “Patsy” had five siblings. She was the second born. She is survived by siblings; Yvonne Rowe and husband D.G., Blytheville, AR, Randall Hornback and wife Donna, Joplin, MO and Gayle Wheat and husband Fred, Parsons, KS. The siblings who preceded her in death were Barbara Peek, Joplin, MO – November 3, 1940 to April 26, 2020, and Kathleen Merl, Joplin, MO – March 13, 1942 to August 23, 2013.

She married Charley C. Spencer on March 4, 1955 in Miami, OK at the courthouse. Charley’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ernest and Fannie Haney (Lower) Spencer went with them. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1983. They had four children; Rodney Dale Spencer who preceded her in death; May 30, 1956 – September 6, 1956. She is survived by three daughters; Vicki Will, Joplin, Mo, Licia Spencer, Pratt, KS, and Kari Reimer, Saginaw, MO.

She moved from Augusta, KS to Duenweg, MO in 1990 to be near her parents and her siblings. She was employed at Oxford Healthcare in Joplin as a Healthcare provider until her retirement.

Patricia enjoyed home interior decorating, drinking coffee, listening to music, dancing, laughing, talking, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed watching her church on television, Mack Evans and Joyce Meyer were her favorites.

She had eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 10:00 am at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery next to her beloved parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loren E Hornback, her sister, Kathleen Merl, and Rodney Spencer, who is buried in the children’s cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
