Obituary for Carolyn Jane Otwell
Carolyn Jane Otwell (Jones), 82, formerly of Wake Village, Texas passed away October 29, 2020 in Carthage, Missouri. She was born on January 28, 1938 in Bragg City, Missouri. Carolyn was a graduate of Gray Ridge High School (1956) and Ouachita Baptist University (1960). She taught Home Economics at Richland High School in Southeast Missouri and at Texas High School in Texarkana, TX. She was a member of Wake Village Baptist Church before her move to Missouri. Upon her move to Missouri, she was lovingly cared for by the memory care nursing staff at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage,MO.
Carolyn married the Rev. George D. Otwell on June 19, 1960. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2016. She was also predeceased by her parents, Ardeth and Essie Jones; and a sister, Mary Frances Thompson.
Carolyn will be remembered by many as a dedicated women’s ministry leader, Sunday School teacher, and choir singer. Many will recall her teaching life skills, such as cooking, sewing and money management. Most of all, she will be remembered by her 6 children and their spouses, 20 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren for leaving a strong legacy of faith and family. Surviving are her six children: Donise (Steve) Doran of Webb City, Missouri; Donna (Terry) Carson of Dekalb, Texas; Don (Joy) Otwell of Canton, Georgia; Glyn (Kristi) Otwell of Redwater, Texas; Lynda (Justin) Gilbert of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; and Carey (Molly) Otwell of Signal Mountain, Tennessee.
Carolyn also leaves behind her treasured sister, Ina Mae (Ron) Winstead of Jackson, Missouri, and three brothers: Ardeth (Juanita) Jones, Jimmie Jones, and Reuben (Sandy) Jones all of Puxico, Missouri; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Chapelwood Cemetery in Nash, Texas, on June 19, 2021, where everyone is invited to celebrate Carolyn’s life.
