Obituary

John Carroll Meyer, age 80, of Joplin, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 at his home.

John, son of the late, George Edgar and Erma Mrytel (Hicks) Meyer, was born on March 18, 1940 in Monett, Missouri. John was a hard worker from an incredibly young age, working beside his dad scraping cars and trucks. He started John Meyer Truck & Foreign Salvage, Inc. in the early 1970’s where he was the owner and operator until his retirement. He enjoyed dirt track racing, spending time with his family and his two little K-9 companions, Molly and Whitey. He had a strong faith and love for the Lord.

Survivors include his former first wife, Bonnie Youngmen, and to this union three children, Dennis Meyer, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Joplin, Carroll Wayne Meyer, of Joplin, and John Meyer, of Kansas City; his second former wife, Jean Meyer, and to this union two children, George Meyer, of Grove, and Shawn Meyer, of Joplin; one sister, Erma Whitney, and her husband, Don, of Joplin; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Meyer, of Joplin; grandchildren, Jacob Meyer, Tiffanie Meyer, Jarod Smith, Shandi Reed, John Zachery Meyer, Robbie Meyer, Jessica Meyer, “Little Shawn” Meyer, and Geordan Meyer; five great-grandchildren, Mila Lopez, Jordan Meyer, Riley Meyer, Camden Meyer, and Christian Meyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Meyer and Dennis Meyer; five sisters, Shirley McClellan, Jeanette Harris, Kay Meyer, Geraldine Harper, and Ruth Polchow; one grandson, Nathan Meyer; and his little loves, Bridgette and Blue.

Due to the Novel Coronavirus outbreak and CDC guidelines, webcasting of the funeral services will be available on www.masonwoodard.com on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 10:00 am and you may contact the mortuary for more information. Burial will follow at Cox Cemetery in Monett. A time of open visitation will be held on Wednesday during normal viewing hours at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society and may be entrusted to the mortuary.

We love John and came here to be with him. God gave Dennis what time he could with his Dad. But,God gave Dennis something that he will treasure and that is John's last I love you son and John heard I love you Dad right back. That is something Dennis can hold on to and treasure. I know that was a gift from God. We love you Grandpa John.
