Obituary for Gene Tracy

On October 13, 2020 Gene Tracy passed from this life to his permanent home in heaven.
Gene is survived by his wife, Bonnie Tracy of the home, his sister Cheryl Ricks of Pittsburg, Kansas and his sister-in-law, Opal Tracy of Joplin, as well as six children; Nancy Borden of Joplin, Joy Mittag of Dexter and husband Lonnie, Tonna Thomas of Joplin and husband Tom, Terry Tracy of Joplin and wife Lin, Madora Baker of Joplin, Tamara Breedlove of Joplin and husband Nick. And his fourteen grandchildren; Kim Chesney, Chad Daniels, Jason Daniels, Dustin Mittag, Nick Mittag, Tracy Johnson, Lisa Welch, Joe Thomas, Becca Moore, Tabitha Bullette, Tyler Tracy, Kyle Tracy, Casey VanStory, Ukiah Camp, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Gene was preceded in death by Shirley Tracy, his wife of 37 years; his parents Ed and Imogene Tracy; 2 brothers, Charles Tracy and Ronnie Tracy, and brother-in-law Ronnie Ricks, and son – in- law Alvin Borden. Gene was born at home in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, on January 27, 1934. He attended Cherry Grove School and Quapaw High School.

During his early years, he was married to Mollie Melton, who gave him his first four children, Nancy, Joy, Tonna, and Terry. Later in life, he married Shirley Casey, who gave him his other two children Madora and Tamara.

Gene loved working with his hands. He was a local contractor/home builder and later retired from St. John’s Hospital after many years of dedicated service in the maintenance department. He enjoyed working on his farm where he raised cattle and chickens and ran a local milk route.

He was a deacon and song leader at Spring City Baptist Church and later was very active at 6th Street Baptist Church in Galena for many years. He loved to sing and loved having a big garden. Gene’s kindness blessed many people and he will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Mason-Woodard Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Gideons International, in care of the mortuary.
