Obituary for Dr. Virgil "Jack" Capron
Dr. Virgil Jack Capron, age 81, of Webb City, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his family at 9:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at The Wildwood Senior Living in Joplin, Missouri following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.
“Jack” as most people knew him by was born on June 17, 1939 in COLUMBUS, KANSAS. He was the oldest son of Virgil E. and Alice L. (Paradee) Capron. On August 7, 1960 Jack married Carol Price in Galena, Kansas and she survives. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Jack Capron and wife Debbie of Leesport, PA, Patrick Daniel Capron and wife Leslie of Webb City, MO; one brother Kenneth Capron and wife Beverly; nine grandchildren, Erica Durbin, Zachary Martin, Chase Capron, Hannah Nally, Natalie Harris, Tadd Capron, Quincie Capron, Elliett Capron and Holly Capron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Evan D. Capron, infant twin daughters Jennifer Ann and Penny Lorraine, daughter Ann L. Martin and grandson Seth Martin.
Jack graduated from Cherokee County Community High School with the Class of 1957 and attended Kansas State University majoring in Feed Technology. After obtaining his degree in Feed Technology, he decided to pursue his degree in Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1965. After graduation he signed up for an early commission program with the Air Force and spent the next two years completing his active duty at Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, Tennessee. After his discharge from the Air Force as a Captain in 1967, the family moved to Webb City to start his veterinary practice at Madison Animal Clinic. For thirteen years he+ worked with both large and small animals before switching to focus on small animals. In 2002 he sold the clinic completing 35 years at the Madison Animal Clinic and continued for several more years as a contract veterinarian prior to his retirement.
Jack had a strong work ethic being raised on a farm near Columbus, Kansas. A mindset instilled in him and his brothers from his parents which he passed along to his children and grandchildren. He was never one to shy away from doing the work that needed to get done. Always willing to help no matter the time of night or weather conditions. In addition to working he also loved watching his kids and grandkids compete in various sports. Always wanting to know when and were the next game or race was so he could attend. Jack left a lasting impression on his children and grandchildren who loved him and will greatly miss him.
Jack was a member of the Mirza Shriners of Pittsburg, Kansas and the Scottish Rite of Ft. Scott, Kansas.
The family would like to thank the Memory Care staff at The Wildwood Senior Living for all the care and love they gave to Jack.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The pallbearers-Zachary Martin, Chase Capron, Tadd Capron, Seth Harris, Kevin Nally, and Jerry Liby. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Human Society in care of the mortuary.
