Dixie Jo (Baggerly) Lankford, passed into eternal rest in Joplin, Mo. on July 29, 2020, after a long illness.

Dixie was born March 12, 1948, in Joplin and was the oldest of five children born to the late Dick and Bonnie (Proctor) Baggerly. She grew up in Spring City, MO, and attended the elementary school there. She graduated from Seneca High School in 1966. She was a lifelong area resident.

Dixie married her high school sweetheart James Allan Lankford on August 3, 1968, and would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary this year. Four children were blessed to this union – Diane, James B., Dana, and Jared.

James and Dixie made their home in Neosho, Mo. Dixie was active in her children's school activities, PTA, Newton County Extension and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed the quarterly luncheons that she attended with her classmates from Seneca and also taking trips with the “Tea Travelers.“

She loved the numerous children she served during her decade of service as a school cook at Westview in rural Neosho. Dixie left the school to work with her cousin and best friend Jackie Arwood at Country Cakes and Bridal Shoppe in Seneca where she altered and sold wedding dresses. She was always delighted to be a part of any bride's special day. Dixie was also known for her infamous sugar cookies which were their own currency in the family.

Dixie was a faithful Christian and member of the Leawood Village Church of Christ. She was baptized into Christ by Brother Porter Johnson in March of 1970 and faithfully served the Lord until her passing.

She is survived by her husband James Lankford of Neosho, and children Diane Gonzales and husband Raul, of Neosho; Jamie Lankford and wife Terry, of Seneca; Dana Johnson and husband Sean of Ozark; and Jared Lankford and wife Melissa of Mt. Vernon; Twelve Grandchildren Garrick Fausett, Proctor Lankford, Chas Lankford, Jansen Gonzales, Brandt Gonzales, Ethan Johnson, Camden Johnson, Colin Johnson, Zeke Lankford, Jon Lankford, Gabby Lankford and Joann Lankford. She is also survived by her sister Lynn Haar and husband Bob, of Joplin; brother Phillip Baggerly and wife Peggy of Grove, Okla., and brother Mike Baggerly and wife Linda of Goodman, Mo.

Dixie was proceeded in death by her brother, Kelly Baggerly and grandson Markham Wayne Taylor Lankford.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Seneca Church of Christ. The visitation is Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Woodard Chapel. Dixie will be laid to rest at Swars Prairie Church of Christ Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Seneca R-7 Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mason Woodard Mortuary.

Sending sincere condolences to Dixie's family. I only heard of her passing Sunday 8/2 and wish I had been able to attend her service and visitation. I have known Dixie since the early 1980's when our children were in 4-H together. It was only in the past few years through my DNA testing that I found that we were also cousins through the Proctor lines of our families. I am praying for James and the rest of Dixie's loved ones.
