Obituary for Vernon Paul Hyslop

Vernon was born on December 13, 1933 in Porum, Oklahoma to the union of Corda Rutherford and Ocie Hyslop. His family moved to Joplin when Vern was a toddler and he resided there his entire life with the exception of the 23 years he served in the Marine Corps.

He grew up near Twin Hills golf course where he often caddied as a youngster and where he fell in love with the game of golf. He went on to win several tournaments while serving in the Marine Corps.
He retired from the Postal Service in the nineties after working for 20 years as a distribution clerk.

He was preceded in death by several siblings, two sons (Stephen and Jeffery) and his wife of 55 years (Darlene Clement).

He is survived by a brother (Phillip) from Porterville, Ca; a sister-in-law (Patty Slankard and husband Jackie) from Tulsa, Ok., and niece (Kelly Rogers and husband Rich) from Port Orange, Fl.

Services will be at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin on Tuesday June 23, 2020 and burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery near Springfield.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory, Joplin Missouri.
