Obituary for Arthur "Art" Hines
Arthur “Art” Hines, age 61 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Art fought cancer three times, courageously enduring treatments to have more time with those he loved.
Art was born on September 16, 1958 in Brookings, South Dakota, the son of Norman and Idamary (Jones) Hines. He was a long-time resident of southwest Missouri. Art fulfilled many roles during his career with the Joplin Fire Department, including Captain. He treasured the lifelong friendships he built there. He retired in 2004 and later owned and operated a power washing business. Art fished professionally in bass tournaments and loved to share the sport with anyone in his boat. Art also enjoyed hunting with family and friends in wild places around the country. He was a mentor and valued friend to the residents of ASCENT Recovery in Joplin. Art is remembered for his big smile, calm steadiness, kindness, good-natured razzing, and for the fun he brought with him to every room.
Art married Julie (Asbury) Musselman on February 18th, 2017. He is survived by his wife Julie, his parents Norman and Idamary Hines of Nixa, Missouri, sons Ryan (Tiana White) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Blake (Meghan Hurley) of Denver, Colorado, Brandon Musselman of Webb City, Missouri, and Riley Wade of Webb City, daughters Brooke LeMasters (Joshua) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Savanah Musselman of Webb City, and Kennedy Musselman of Webb City, brothers Mark (Sondra) of Helena, Montana, and Michael (Mary) of Nixa, sister Laurie Chandler (Eric) of Denver, granddaughter Ida June LeMasters, his beloved niece, nephews, and a host of dear friends.
A memorial service has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin, Missouri. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation immediately following the service. To protect our community, the family requests everyone wear masks and maintain a physical distance of at least 6ft, and share stories instead of hugs, kisses and handshakes.
