Obituary for Deloris M Filbeck
Deloris M. Filbeck, age 82, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at her home.
Deloris, daughter of the late Sequoia and Thama (Ward) Dawes, was born on March 10, 1938 in Joplin. She grew up and received her education in Joplin. After graduating high school, she attended St. John’s School of Nursing. On March 1, 1959 at the Blendville Christian Church in Joplin, she was united in marriage to David Filbeck. On April 8, 2019, David preceded her in death. Together they devoted their life to missions work in Thailand. David and Deloris established Christian Mission to the Orient as a sending agency for missionaries working in Thailand
Together, they started a leadership training school that is now Lanna Theological Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Between 1975-82, they joined Al Hamilton to establish Pioneer Bible Translators while teaching at Lincoln Christian Seminar in Lincoln, IL.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Ken Filbeck, and his wife, Christine, of Oakhurst, CA, and Dr. David Filbeck, and his wife, Sharon, of Thailand; two daughters, Carmen Filbeck (of Joplin and Thailand) and Catherine Filbeck of Joplin; two brothers, Sequoia “Sunny” Dawes, of CA, and Bob Dawes, and his wife, Pam, of Buffalo, MO; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jerry Tyree.
Private graveside services will be held at the Crane Community Cemetery in Crane, MO with a public Celebration of Life to be held in Thailand at a later date. Open viewing available from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm on Saturday and noon till 6:00 pm on Sunday.
