Obituary for Willa Mae Terry - Groth

Willa Mae Terry- Groth, age 80, passed away on Sunday April 5, 2020, at the Communities of Wildwood, following an illness.

Willa was born on August 6, 1939 in Diamond, Mo., the daughter of the late Hugh and Bonnie (Hansford) Souder. She has been a lifetime area resident. She worked many years as a waitress for Red’s Café. She also owned and operated Quick Liquor on S. 43rd Highway in Joplin. She enjoyed going to the casino and playing Bingo. Her family says that she had the patience of a saint.

Willa met and married her first husband, Ronald Terry, while working at Red’s Café. They were married on January 1, 1959 in Diamond, MO. Together they blessed with two daughters. Ronald preceded her in death on June 4, 2006. She married Vern Groth on July 17, 2000. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2008.
Willa is survived by her two daughters, Janet Terry and Debbie Terry, both of Webb City, MO; a cousin that she treated like a daughter, Neely Burkhart, Racine, MO; a step-son, Kim Groth and wife Sandy, Seneca, MO; two brothers, Gordon Souder and wife Rebecca, Carthage, MO, and Harley Souder and wife Myrna, Riverton, KS; one sister Beverly Moser and husband John, Duenweg, MO; six grandchildren, Laura, Cindy, Debbie, Sharron, Harley, and Henry; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Fidelity Cemetery. Gordon Souder will officiate. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all services are limited to a maximum of 10 people; by way of State order. Extended family and friends may view Live Streaming of the service at:
