Obituary for Loretta May Carpenter

Loretta May (Coleman) Carpenter, age 79, of Joplin, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Loretta passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Loretta was born in Carthage, Mo., on November 1, 1940 to the late J.D. and Mildred (Ayers) Coleman. She graduated from Webb City High School in 1959.

Loretta’s main job in life was creating a warm and loving home for her family. For 18 years she assisted her husband in operation of their business, Jay’s Auto Repair. Loretta enjoyed playing the piano, creating decorative crafts, making quilts and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a Christian and had a very strong faith. Her sweet spirit endeared her to so many.
Loretta married her soulmate, J.C. Carpenter on May 19, 1959. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage before Jay’s passing on December 22, 2017. Loretta was also preceded in death by three much loved brothers, Larry, Carl, and Robert Coleman.

Survivors include her beloved children, Marty Carpenter, Miami, Ok., Lori Musser and husband Kevin of Joplin, Missy Hext of Diamond and Jody Carpenter of Joplin; adored grandchildren, Jake Musser and wife Claudia, Korey Scribner and wife Brooke, Jessie Davis and husband Trever, Kaci Scribner, and Emmy Carpenter and husband Jared Smith; treasured great-grandchildren, Tinley Scribner, Alex Musser, Natalie Musser, Sunnie Scribner, Tucker Davis and Khloe Swarens; one cherished brother, Henry Coleman and sister-in-law Patty of Webb City; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special friends, Judy Fair, Beverly Dunlap, and Carol Scribner.

Loretta’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Avalon Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion.

A time of visitation has been scheduled for 6-7 pm, Friday March 20 at Mason-Woodard. Friends are welcome to attend the visitation, we will have to limit the amount of people that can be inside the building at any given time but will try to accommodate as many as we can.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Mason-Woodard Chapel. With the current attendance restrictions please allow for the family to attend at the funeral . Pastor Joe Morris, will be the officiant. Jake Musser, Korey Scribner, Trever Davis, Jared Smith, Matt Coleman, and Mark Coleman will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Carterville Cemetery.
