Obituary for Lou Ella Land

Lou Ella Land, age 89 of Webb City, Mo., passed away Saturday February 8, 2020 following a short illness with family by her side.

She was born July 7, 1930 in Webb City, Mo., to John and Bedie (Pierce) Carter.

Lou loved to sing, square dance, paint, toe paint, scuba dive, and write poetry. She performed on several radio stations and attended several area churches where she sang and was involved with church activities. Most recently she was attending New Beginnings Church. She previously owned the Silver Grill restaurant in Washington and managed Colt 44 Restaurant in Joplin, Mo. Lou also worked for the former Elders’ Shirt Factory, Jasper County Facilities and drove a bus for Oats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Donna Dalton and her husband Darrell, one grandson Troy Dalton; five brothers, Clarence Carter, John Carter, Claude Carter, Dave Carter; one sister Myrtle Allen.
Lou is survived by two sons, Mike Southard and Lester Southard and wife Debbie; one daughter Mira Southard; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday February 13, 2020 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary with Pastor Bill Hobson officiating. Burial will follow at the Purcell Friends Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Thursday Prior to the service.
