Obituary for Jason D. Swann
Jason D. Swann, age 39, passed from this life on Friday November 22, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, following a courageous life.
Jason was born on November 3, 1980 in Birmingham, AL, the son of Jim Swann and Lynita (LaGrone) Swann Leggett. The Swann family moved to Joplin in 1988 from Birmingham, AL. In 1999 he graduated from Joplin High School. He completed his first semester at MSSU making the Dean’s list. Almost twenty years ago Jason was hit by a drunk driver which changed his life. During those twenty years he was surrounded by the undying love of his family. He impacted their lives and the lives of so many in such a positive loving way.
Jason was a member of the Newman Road Church of Christ. Those who knew Jason, knew he was an avid Alabama “Bama” fan. He also loved his niece and his nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Swann on August 11, 2016; by his grandfather, Raymond LaGrone; and grandparents, James and Sadie Swann; and an aunt, Shannon LaGrone.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Lynita and Glen Leggett, Oronogo, MO; his brothers, Justin Swann and wife Rachel, Webb City, MO, and Jared Swann and wife Jennifer, Webb City, MO; his sister, Jill Elbert and husband Matt, Webb City, MO; step-sister, Pam Leggett-Lowery and husband Mike, Overland Park, KS; his grandmother, Linda LaGrone, Atlanta, GA; great-grandmother, Ethel Bigham, Berry, AL; aunts and uncles, Bill and Sheila Swann, Bardstown, KY; Susie and Chet Hallman, Southside, AL, Russell and Kay LaGrone, and Donna and Greg Zumwalt, Hannibal, MO; one niece, Harper Kay Elbert; and five nephews, Grayson Elbert, Jaxon Swann, Lincoln Swann, Jaden Swann, and James “Bear” Swann; and a nephew on his way.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Russell LaGrone will officiate. Friends are encouraged to share a story about Jason at the service. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near Webb City, MO.
The visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. To honor Jason, everyone is to wear their favorite sports team apparel, with the exception of Auburn, ROLL TIDE. Memorial contributions may be given to MADD Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers in care of the mortuary.
