Obituary

Donald “Big Kahuna” Michael Pietrzak, 89, of Navarre passed peacefully away Sunday, November 10, 2019, surrounded by loved ones on a beautiful and sunny Florida morning.

Born and raised in Chicago, the son of Hattie and Maciej Pietrzak. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was a police officer in Washington, DC, and a Plant Manager for Bagcraft in Joplin which later relocated to Baxter Springs, KS. During the course of his life he made many friends in Chicago, IL, Neosho and Joplin, MO and the surrounding areas.

Don enjoyed ranching, farming, and watching his favorite teams, Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears, compete. He was a fountain of wisdom and always had advice for those in need of it.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy and son, David; sister Arlene Smid, and brothers, Bob Pietrzak and Chester Golofit.

Survivors include his sons, John (Nancy) of Joplin, and Michael (Mabel) of Hidalgo, TX; 10 grandchildren: Holly (Shane), Aaron (Erin), Joy (Touzong), James, Isaac (Emily), Mike, Thomas, Jeremy, Joshua, Meagan; and many loving great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. with funeral immediately following on Saturday, November 16 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery next to his wife. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Kiwanis Club, which he was active member of for years.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
