Westly “Wes” Ray Gilstrap, age 42, of Webb City, Mo passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 at his sister's home in Duenweg, Mo surrounded by family. Mr. Gilstrap, son of Michael Gilstrap and Becky (Bradbury) Plank, was born on January 11, 1977 in Joplin. Wes grew up and attended school in Carl Junction. He loved spending time with his family, being the joker of the family. He always had a positive attitude. He enjoyed conversating with people and his conversations included his quick wit and humor. He loved to make people laugh, and always had a new joke to tell. He enjoyed reading, listening to music and watching his favorite teams, Steelers, Chiefs, and Alabama Crimson Tide football.

Survivors include his daughters, Allanis and Alexsis Plank, of Brewton, AL; his mother and step-father, Becky and Kirby Plank, of Brewton, AL; one sister, Carrie Ann Christenson, of Duenweg, MO; maternal grandmother, Beverly Bradbury, of Webb City, MO; two nieces Ashley Komma, and her husband, Zak, of Joplin, MO, and Amber Swager, of Carl Junction; and great niece and nephews, Raven, Phoenix, and Vincent.

There are people in our area that when they pass from this life, you wish our paths would have crossed. What an inspiring young person in the prime of his life that could make people laugh and love. God loves that when we have humor and make people laugh, its better than medicine according to the most wise man ever to live, Solomon who wrote proverbs. Humor is a side of God that most do not see. When we know Jesus and we pass, Jesus takes us a presents us back to God to whom we came and we don't even have a clue of all the good stuff that starts at that moment like a big Thanks from God. A ring and a song just special for us and a mansion that would make the world jealous. Heaven is worth it all, Don't miss it! The three in one live there with our loved ones throughout the ages. Hope to someday meet Wes there and all of those who knew and loved this bright young man of the Joplin area...

Mrs. Bradbury, Carrie and Mrs. Plank,
My deepest thoughts and prayers are with you all and the rest of your family. Wes was one of the most amazing, kind, thoughtful, intensely funny, sweet, sarcastic, loyal and loving men that I've ever known. I was honored to have known him and loved him since we were 17 years old.

I was heartbroken to hear of his passing. I hate that I hadn't spoken to him since his birthday. I wish I could've heard his voice one more time. Nobody will ever call me, "Jennnnnnay," in a Forrest Gump voice like he did. Nobody has ever made me feel as beautiful as he did. He was infatuated with my, "weird, but intensely awesome eyeballs," lol. He always knew how to make me smile. I wish I could've told him I loved him just one more time.

You are all in my heart. I'm so terribly sorry for this loss of such an amazing human.

Love always,
Jenica Jeffries-Crockett
