Obituary for Betty E. Mead (Faulds)

Elizabeth “Betty” Eloise Faulds Mead, age 96 of Asbury, Mo. passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch following an illness.

Betty Eloise Mead, was born at Dodge City, Ks. November 12, 1921, to Charles and Pearl (Allen) Faulds. She grew up and attended school at Dodge City, Ks. She grew up during the Depression and dust storms in Western Kansas south of Dodge City in a family of eight, one brother, six sisters, one adopted brother and a cousin all living under one roof. She worked at Fairmont Foods, Brown Manufacturing Co., where they made things for the government during the war and for Safeway Grocery.

She met Orville Dean Herr and married him May 21, 1945. Dean was stationed at the Army Air Base at Dodge City. After Dean’s service, they moved to Asbury in the spring of 1946. They farmed and ran a dairy together. Betty was a member of the Asbury Baptist Church. Dean passed away July 2, 1978. They were parents to two children, Gloria Jean and Don Dean Herr.

Betty later married Howard Floyd. He passed away April 27, 1996. She then married Lee Mead and he passed away March 14, 1999.

She is survived by one daughter, Gloria and Richard Lyons; one son, Don and Cindy Herr, all of Asbury; three step-sons, Frank Floyd of Columbia, Mo., Charles Mead of Arkansas, George Mead and Diane of Joplin; a step-daughter Lilly Ann Green of Pittsburg, Ks., six grandchildren, Deana Vangel and Jamie, Amber Sill, Brittany Breedlove and Tim, Austin Herr; step grand-children, Stephanie Willis and Dominic, Richie Lyons; eight great-grandchildren, Erica Sill, Nick Sill, Leighton Breedlove, McKenzie Breedlove, Keegan Breedlove, Brieonna Vangel, Jacey Vangel and Lathe Herr; sister-in-law, Eva Herr, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother and sisters.

The family would like to thank the Communities of Wildwood Ranch for such good care shown to their mother, Betty.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Crocker Cemetery in Pittsburg, Ks. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in care of the mortuary.
