Marvin G. Roughton, age 78, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center, following an illness.

Marvin was born on December 5, 1939 in Hiwasse, Ar., the son of the late Kenneth Roughton and Bonnie (Hanson) Roughton. He lived in the Joplin area for over fifty years. He retired from Pitney-Bowes after twenty-five years of service. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City, Mo. and served as a Deacon. Family was the most important thing to him, and his hobbies included fishing and enjoying the outdoors.

Marvin married Carol Lee Coats on October 19, 1958, she survives. Additional survivors include, a son Michael Roughton and wife Jennifer, Joplin, Mo., and two daughters, Debbie Adkins and husband George, Diamond, Mo., and Brenda Pelham Boyd and husband Richard, Oronogo, Mo. One sister, Ellen Wolf and husband Keith, Springfield, Mo, and two brothers; Bill Roughton, Jarrett, Va., Richard Roughton and wife Mary, Salina, Ks.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Richard Chambers, minister, will officiate. Pallbearers include Shawn Laughlin, Adam Laughlin, Chris Laughlin, Matthew Roughton, Ace Luke Pelham, Tavis Vaughn, and Michael VanSlyke. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Mason-Woodard Chapel.
