Obituary for Terry M. Tyler II

Carl Junction, Mo. Terry M. Tyler II, age 43, of Carl Junction, Mo. passed away at 8:50 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2012 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin after “winning” a courageous fight with cancer. Terry was born March 15, 1969 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He had lived in Carl Junction, Mo. since 1986, and graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1987. Terry was also a 1991 graduate of the MSSU Police Academy. Terry joined the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department as a Detention Officer in November, 1991. In 1993 he transferred to the Patrol Division, and in 2000 he transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division as a Detective, assigned to crimes against children. In 2004 Terry was assigned to the Jasper County Drug Task Force and later returned to the Criminal Investigations Division. He served the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department for a total of 21 years. Terry was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Mo. Narcotics Officer’s Assoc., Mo. Investigator’s Assoc., Mo. Sheriff’s Assoc. and was a member of the Tri State Major Case Squad.
Terry married Lisa Brown August 25, 1995 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, Ashlynn Tyler, and Madalynn Tyler, both of the home, his parents, Terry and Margarita Tyler Sr., Joplin, one brother, James Tyler, Asbury, Mo. and his daughters, Kristen, and Elizabeth.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Fairview Christian Church in Carthage with Travis Walthall, Roy Teed, Chris Carriger, Mike McDonald, and Alicia Marshall officiating. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Tyler Children’s Education Fund in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
