Clara “Cathern” Smith, 97 of Carl Junction, Mo passed away Monday April 2, 2012 from a sudden illness.

She was born to Paul and Iva Showalter, September 12, 1914 at Drexel, Missouri. Cathern married Glen Smith June 17, 1946 at Joplin, Missouri. Glen preceded her in death in 1959. Cathern worked for Williams Chili Seasoning, Webb City, Missouri and retired in 1979.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Paul Showalter, Ivan Showalter, Henry Showalter, William Showalter and Howard Showalter.

Cathern is survived by her son Gary Smith and his wife Cindy of Carl Junction, Missouri, 2 Grandchildren, Kim Massey and her husband Brian, Carl Junction and Geoff Smith, Carl Junction, Missouri, 5 Great Grandchildren, Dustin Massey, Colton Massey, Jordan Smith, Kaleigh Fleming, and Jeremy Smith, 1 Great Great Grandchild, Remington Massey, and a sister Daisy Roker, Tuscan, Arizona. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and 2 very special friends, Saundra Dover and Jimmy VanFleet.

Graveside services will be 1:30 Friday April 6, 2012 at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Russell Roderick officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-7 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Dustin Massey, Colton Massey, Jordan Smith, Jeremy Smith, Geoff Smith and Brian Massey.
