Webb City, Mo. Viola “Granny” Jordan, age 101, of Webb City, Mo. passed away at 1:45 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 at the St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage following a two year illness. Viola was born Oct. 2, 1910 in Tribune, Kansas. She moved to Webb City in 1988 after living 42 years in Oronogo. She worked at a sewing factory in Racine in the 1930’s, and as a Housekeeper in the 1960’s. Viola was a member of the Oronogo Baptist Church and was a former Vacation Bible School Teacher.
Viola married Earl Jordan Jan. 9, 1928 in Wellington, Kansas. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1950. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Walter Lee, Marvin, and Carl Ray Jordan, and a daughter, Inez Scott. Survivors include two sons, Robert Jordan, Carthage, Mo., and Leroy Jordan, Oronogo, five daughters, Lois Foster, Carl Junction, Mo. Wanda Williams, Carthage, Mo., and Helen Willis, Hazel Banks, and Virginia Prigg, all of Webb City, 35 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and over 60 great great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Hedge-Lewis Chapel with Rev. Johnny Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Carterville Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers; Mike Foster, Stevie Foster, Keith Williams, Dennis Carey, Ricky Prigg, and David Jeffers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Chapel. Memorial contributions are requested to the Mo. Baptist Children’s Home in care of the Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City, Mo.
