Violet Long
Violet Long, age 94, Racine, Mo., passed away on Friday July 27, 2018, at the Seneca House, following an illness.

Violet was born on July 31, 1923 in Alex, Ar., the daughter of the late Hoy and Nellie Irene (Biggs) Bartlett. She has been a lifelong area resident. She married Claude Long on May 20, 1942 in Carthage, Mo. and together they raised four children. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a cook for Red’s Café/Jesse’s Truck Stop and Jerry’s Café. She has been a member of the Racine Christian Church since 1959. Violet loved to cook and bake pies, which earned her the title of the “Pie Lady” at Church. Before losing her eye sight she enjoyed bowling and crocheting.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband Claude Long on August 27, 1993. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Bartlett and Hoy Richard Bartlett; one sister, Bonnie Pim; a great-grandson, Zachary Long; and a step-grandson, Larry Kinslow.

She is survived by two sons, Clovis Long and wife Debra, Seneca, Mo., and James Long and wife Marilyn, Seneca, Mo.; two daughters, Marsha Sarratt and husband Bill, Springfield, Mo., and Sandra Drake and husband Max, Neosho, Mo., seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Racine Christian Church. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be James Long, Jr., Jeff Long, Rob Long, Clovis Long, Jr., Ryan Long and Cheyenne Cummings. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Triplett, Chris Drake, David Conway, Dan Raines and Chester VanDorn.
