Obituary for Ronald R. "Ron" Moss

Ronald R. "Ron" Moss
Ronald Raye Moss was the only child of Owen F. and Marion Jane Moss. He was born July 16, 1938 in Hannibal, Missouri. He fathered one child, Dawn Joy Moss.

Ron attended many grade schools and graduated from Salina, Kansas High School in May, 1956. In September of that year he began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone. In 34 ½ years with the company he held many jobs. On March 4, 1976 he was promoted to management as a First Line Supervisor, a position he held until his retirement on January 1, 1991.

On February 13, 1965 Ron married Dolores Moss in Abilene, Kansas at the First Methodist Church. Not only did he become a husband, he became the step-father to Steven, Susan, David and Carol Crough.

Ron and Dee enjoyed camping throughout their married years. They spent 17 years of full-time RVing.

Ron had many motorcycles, cars, RV’s and trucks throughout his life and had a pride for them all. He also headed many camping clubs. He became an Amateur Radio Operator in 1966 and was given the call WAORXI. He was a Mason and Shriner in the Isis Temple, Salina, Ks. As a member of the Clown Unit he was known as Hank E. Panky.

Ron enjoyed photography and especially enjoyed taking close-up pictures of wildflowers. He won many awards in Competiton Photography. He received his Associate membership in the Photographic Society of America (APSA) in 1989.

In 1992 he learned woodcarving and carved a ten foot totem pole which stands in the Arrowhead RV Park in Cascade, Id. His chip carved pieces won many awards.

Ron started playing acoustic guitar in 2001 and began singing Bluegrass and Gospel songs. He belonged to the “Strings and Things Band” in Az. and “Drywood Bluegrass Band” in Mo.

Ron’s wishes were to be cremated and he hopes someone will cast his ashes to the wind to become nourishment for the roadside wildflowers. When you see a flower or hear the song of a bird, remember his gentle ways.
