Obituary for Charles G. Schneider

On Sunday, January 7, 2018, Charles “Gary” Schneider, 72, went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jeanette and Charles Schneider, and brother-in-law, William Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Victoria “Vicky”, daughter Christina Dunigan (William), son Scott Schneider (Joyce), and grandchildren Audrey Camp, Seth and Nathan Schneider. His brother Marvin Schneider (Mary Ann) and sister Joyce Hughes both live in the Kansas City area.

Gary was born and raised in Kansas City, Ks. Upon graduation from Washington High School, he attended the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mi., earning his degree in Industrial Engineering. This began his 45-year career at General Motors, where he was the Body Shop Facility Layout Engineer for the original and new Kansas City Fairfax plants but also worked on other plants in the U.S. and Canada.

Gary had a great passion for serving his community. While living in Piper, Ks., Gary volunteered with the Community Education Association, Lion’s Club as well as the Piper Volunteer Fire Department, attaining the rank of Captain during his 10-year service. In 2010, Gary and Vicky retired to Joplin, Mo. After the tragic events of the Joplin tornado, Gary spent the next three months helping with clean-up of his newly adopted city. He also supported several charitable organizations including SPIVA Center for the Arts and volunteered at Crosslines, Habitat for Humanity, as well as his church, Christ’s Community United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Christ’s Community United Methodist Church. Pastors Chris Sloan and Bob Dart will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ’s Community UMC Youth Ministry or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the mortuary.
