I will remember all the wonderful memories at Big Sugar Creek with John, Carolyn, Jonlyn and Justin. We all shared a love of camping and the outdoors. He always treated us (Jonlyn's friends) like family. I will always remember how John welcomed and waved to all incoming and outgoing campers, as he knew no stranger. Almost all of them stopped to visit and swap stories. John knew them, their kids, and their kids kids. Sometimes, he told some to "slow down!" on their way in the park, since their camper was at the entrance. John was always ready to have you sit down so he could tell you a story or talk about the bait strategies for the next fishing day. He was quite a float guide down the Big Sugar, and would always point out the best root wad or rock to perch next to in order to catch "Walter", the big smallie or a mess of goggle eye. We always ended up with a mess of fish and John was always ready to clean them (until Jonlyn learned how)and Carolyn to help cook them. Carolyn would always make all the sandwiches and lunch for the float trips too which was much appreciated. When I float in the future, I will always be looking for John's hat above each belly boat going down the stream that I am trying to catch up to, and will be listening for the sound of "fish on" and a laugh from his good fishing buddy Jim, who he always referred to as "Vanfleet." John's legacy resides in his family and everyone that he connected with including me and I hope to spread the enthusiasm that he always had for life and use that energy to move forward positively as John would want it that way. Good memories had with John will last forever.
