Duenweg, MO Jess Long, age 82, of Duenweg, MO passed away at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at his home. Jess was born May 7, 1934, in the Scotland Community, East of Duenweg, MO, .the son of Charles and Minnie (Morgan) Long, and had lived in the Duenweg area all his life. He attended school in Scotland and was a graduate of Duenweg High School. Jess was the co-owner of Covey and Poe Body Shop in Joplin for 35 years, and previously worked 37 years with the former Atlas Powder Co. He retired from Atlas in 1989 and retired from Covey and Poe in 2014. Jess was a member of the Stapleton Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon.
Jess also served his country in the U. S. Army.
Jess married Ruby Johnson on November 7, 1952 in Bentonville, AR and she survives. Additional survivors include a son, Kent Long and wife Kristy, Joplin, one daughter, Melissa Preteroti and husband Peter, Eliot, ME, one brother, Robert Long and wife Dorcelene, Diamond, MO, three grandchildren, Geoffrey Haynes and wife Chelsea, Dylan Long, and Zoe Preteroti, two step grandchildren, Charla Patterson, and Craig Thompson and wife Sharia, three great grandchildren, Karson, Lyla, and Myah Haynes, seven step great grandchildren, and one step great great grandson. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Jess was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and six brothers.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with David Johnson and Erik Hirshey officiating. Burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mortuary. Memorial contributions are requested to Integrity Hospice in care of the Mortuary. The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Integrity Hospice and Home Instead for their care of Jess.
