William H. “Bill” Kelly, age 84, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday October 18, 2016, at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
Bill was born on September 14, 1932 in Douglas, Arizona, the son of the late George Thomas Kelly and Irene (Crandall) Kelly. He served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his discharge, he worked for several years in law enforcement and retired from the Civil Service as a quality control engineer, inspecting aircraft parts. After retirement, he bought and sold real estate in the Joplin area. Bill was the former Chairman of the Board for the Village of Silver Creek. He was the former Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Ozark Gateway Council of Governments. He also served as a Commissioner for the Newton County Economic Development Commission. He enjoyed fishing and doing yardwork.
Bill married Jackie Fitzgerald on October 20, 1956 in Miami, Ok. and she survives. Additional survivors include a daughter-in-law, Linda Kelly, Joplin; four grandchildren, Zachary Kelly, Patrick Kelly and his wife Lacy, Ashley Laughlin and her husband Josh, and Andrew Phillips and his wife Connie; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, William Blaine Kelly and Brian C. Kelly; and two brothers, Walter Kelly and George Kelly, Jr.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Mount Hope Cemetery Open Air Chapel. Randy Wilson, Minister will officiate. The pallbearers will be Zachary Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Andrew Phillips, and Josh Laughlin.
There will be no scheduled visitation. Friends may call during regular visiting hours.
