Matthew Joseph Oberzan
Matthew Joseph “Matt” Oberzan

Matthew Joseph “Matt” Oberzan, age 42, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Saturday November 28, 2015, at his home, due to an accident in the garage while working on one of his classic cars.
Matt was born on April 23, 1973 in Columbus, Ks the son of Joseph and Jeanette (Graham) Oberzan. Matt grew up in Columbus, Ks., and attended Southeast High School in Cherokee, Ks. He went on to graduate from Pittsburg State University with a BS in Construction Management Engineering. He worked for USD #250 for five years, he owned and operated Creative Hardwoods of Scammon, Ks. He also worked as a service supervisor for Halliburton Energy Services in Al Kobar Saudi Arabia/ Williston, North Dakota, and most recently for Tamko in Joplin, Mo.
Matt’s hobbies included rebuilding old cars, fishing, and finding great deals. He loved to spend time with friends around a bon fire. He especially liked cooking on the grill. This is why he installed one in the middle of his kitchen. He was an all-around great guy, someone that I was lucky enough and proud to call my best friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tina Oberzan, Joplin; his mother Jeanette Oberzan, Iola, Ks.; his father, Joe Oberzan, Scammon, Ks.; his brother, Mark Oberzan, Scammon, Ks.; sister & brother in-laws, Kathy and Joe Brown, Joplin; Jessica and Jon Dodge, Joplin, and Tim and Miranda Crandall, Joplin; nieces and nephews, Qwyntnn Patton and husband Justin, Blake and Ethan Brown, Aaron Dodge, Kaydence and Mallory Patton, and Madison and Chloe Crandall; and best friends Steve and Deni Melton, Frontenac, Ks..
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Len Clevenger will officiate. He will be cremated following the services.
